Great AST 1 Course in Smithers!

Thanks to the Bulkley Valley SAR team in Smithers, 3 members of Mackenzie SAR were able to attend an AST 1 course in Smithers last weekend (we were able to keep costs down by not having to pay for accomidation). The course was put on by Sean Fraser, proprietor of Hyland Backcountry Safety and himself an active SAR member. There were 6 students all together, so it was a nice small group and we were able to get plenty of 1 on 1 instruction. We used our newly purchased BCA Tracker 3 beacons for the first time on the course, and were impressed with their user-friendliness and precision. It was readily apparant how far things have come since the old days of analog beacons, and when minutes count it is important to have the newest technology!
