The 10 Essentials
When venturing out into the wilderness it is important to make sure that you have these items with you should you run into an unforeseen emergency:
1. Water - at least 2 liters, in a tightly sealed container.
2. Food - enough to last you 24 hours.
3. Fire - a lighter, and a back-up, like a magnesium rod and striker. 2-3 candles as well.
4. Map and compass (and/or GPS with spare batteries)
5. Knife - fixed blade or folding, good quality, and sharp!
6. 50' of cord - Paracord is good, as is 2.5mm or 3mm guy line cord.
7. 8'x10' tarp - for shelter building.
8. Headlamp or flashlight - with spare batteries.
9. First Aid kit - band-aids, moleskin, triangular bandages, aspirin, tweezers, rubber gloves
10. Extra clothes - top and bottom layers, headwear and mittens, spare socks.
