About Us

Who We Are

Mackenzie Search and Rescue — MacSAR — is a volunteer SAR team based in Mackenzie, BC. We operate under the authority of the RCMP and BC's Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) ministry, and we're a registered member group of BC Search and Rescue Association (BCSARA).

We've been serving this community for decades. Our operational area covers Mackenzie and the surrounding wilderness — including the Finlay, Parsnip, and Pack River drainages, the Rocky Mountain Trench, and backcountry terrain that stretches well beyond the pavement.

What We Do

We respond to missing persons calls, lost hikers, overdue travellers, and backcountry emergencies. Our team is trained and equipped for ground search and avalanche response. We work alongside BC Ambulance, the RCMP, and other SAR teams when operations require it.

We don't charge for our services. We show up because people need us.

Our Team

MacSAR has approximately 33 active members — men and women from all walks of life in Mackenzie who share one thing in common: a commitment to bringing people home safely. We train together every week and respond together when tasked.

Governance

MacSAR is a registered non-profit society. We operate transparently, report annually, and maintain our equipment and training standards to meet provincial requirements under EMCR Policy 2.12 and BCSARA's Ground Search and Rescue classification framework.
